Established in 2001, the Harvard Extension Student Association (HESA) serves more than 16,000 students annually at Harvard Extension, one of Harvard University’s 13 schools. HESA’s mission is to build and foster a strong sense of community among the Extension School’s diverse student body, including our distance education students from around the world. Through a myriad of initiatives, HESA aims to enrich the Harvard Extension student experience by creating opportunities to develop lifelong friendships.

Misan Oteri is an ALB candidate, concentrating in the social sciences, at the Extension School. He served as the Director of Club Affairs at the Harvard Extension School Student Association for 2014/2015 academic year, and is the Vice-President for the 2015/2016 academic year. He is interested in humans, culture, and society. He has been known to say “If there is one thing I want to leave Harvard with, it a deeper knowledge of how the world really works, so I can do my bit to make it a better place.” For 2015/2016 he is working on exciting projects aimed at bringing a strong sense of school spirit. Emerald is an ALB degree candidate with a concentration in psychology. From Waterloo, Iowa, she spent five years in the U.S. Air Force. She served as a public affairs representative stationed in Montana, Washington and Afghanistan. Emerald then spent two years in sales before deciding to go back to school. While working with the public via the military and sales, she developed a keen interest in human psychology and she looks forward to pursing the field. When she is not studying or working with HESA, she enjoys camping and hiking, going to Boston sporting events, and volunteering for a suicide crisis hotline. She is thrilled to be the secretary for this year’s administration and looks forward to an exciting and productive final year at Harvard.
Chiwai Chow is the Director of Finance for HESA 2015-2016. He is a proud Master of Liberal Arts Finance Candidate. Chiwai received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree from Boston University School of Management. His professional resume includes over a decade of experience in the financial industry and four Financial Industry Regulatory Authority licenses. Chiwai was originally born in Hong Kong and now lives in Massachusetts permanently. He is grateful for the academic and extracurricular opportunities Harvard Extension School has given him, and will use his professional skills to contribute back to the school administration and the student body. Rachel is incredibly excited to be the Director of Student Affairs for the 2015-2016 HESA executive board. She is a long time Student Affairs professional who hopes to use her experience working with students to help advocate for the plethora of Harvard Extension students both in Cambridge and all over the world. She recently relocated to Washington, DC and is currently spending her spare time getting lost in her new city trying to meet people or spending time with her dogs.
Amy Storer is a graduate student the Master of Liberal Arts Program with a concentration in Legal Studies. She obtained her first master’s degree program at Johns Hopkins University in Global Security Studies and works for the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C.
As Director of Communications, Amy is no stranger to the importance and execution of effective communication. She is passionate about the Harvard Extension School Program and
will strive to create opportunities through outreach, open, candid dialogue, and team-building initiatives. Bringing the spirit and “sense of community” to the program is her ultimate goal! Building an environment where our students can come together in unity is when the magic of Harvard happens.
Amanda McMahan is a Master of Liberal Arts Degree Candidate with a concentration in Museum Studies, and a previous Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Originally from Indiana, Amanda has spent the last ten years working through various jobs and cities, including Chicago, Dallas and New York City. Currently, she works and studies at Harvard University—learning with and working alongside an amazing cohort of educators and scholars.
Amanda has a comprehensive background in logistics, event planning, scheduling, professional communication, and office management. In her free time, she plays the violin and is an avid foodie, constantly on the search for the best vegan and gluten free fare in New England.
Amanda is grateful for the opportunity to serve as HESA’s Director of Club Affairs, and hopes to foster a more united Extension School community.
Hi, I’m Tracie Gordon, ALB candidate at HES, currently serving as Director of Events on HESA’s Board. I’ve spent most of my life in hospitality and project management, having worked in a nurnber of venues between New York and South Beach for many years. Project management becarne a passion after a stint with a number of high end developrnents in Nassau, Bahamas. An avid traveler, with a desire to finish my education brought me to Harvard. Possessing a lust Mr life, I hope to share my experiences and spread joy to each and every person I meet. I enjoy networking and hope this quality will allow me to achieve harmony thru perseverance and dogged determination to all events.
