
![]() Second Annual Thesis ForumNotes from May 27-29, 2008 The Harvard Extension School Graduate Degree Programs and the Harvard Extension School Student Association (HESA) co-sponsored the second annual Thesis Presentation Forum. The Forum took place on May 27th, May 28th, & May 29th in the Cinema Room at the Student Organization Center at Hilles. Presenters covered topics in the Humanities, Biology and Social Sciences, Biotechnology, Environmental Management, Information Technology, and Mathematics for Teaching. HESA thanks the students for presenting their work, the Deans and staff of Harvard Extension School and all the programs, and our event organizing and logistics team– especially James Brennan, Nicki De La Rosa, Ashley Pollock, and Anna Weisfeiler. ![]() Ashley Pollock Elected President of HESA for 2008-2009Largest Election in HESA History in terms of Votes Cast Students have elected Ashley Pollock to the office of President of Harvard Extension Student Association for the 2008-2009 academic year. With 320 total votes cast in this election, up 20% from last year, voters chose Ashley from a field of six candidates. Ashley is both student and alumna, pursuing her second ALM degree while holding an ALM in History (2005). She formerly held the offices of ALM Liaison and HESA Representative to the Harvard Graduate Council. She currently serves as Vice President of Communications for the Harvard Graduate Council. Ashley will take office on June 1, 2008. HESA congratulates Ashley, and thanks the candidates, the Election Committee (Jonas Palencia, Amy Hull, Waseem Zafar, Jose O'Brien), Dean Neugeboren, and all the voters for making this a successful election. Harvard Extension Negotiation & Leadership ForumNotes from Saturday, May 3, 2008 The Harvard Extension Service & Leadership Society, in conjunction with the Program On Negotiation at Harvard Law School, presented “Power Dynamics In Negotiations”. This event, with over 240 attendees, was the largest in HESA history. The audience enjoyed the speakers' perspectives on personal negotiations as well as the role of culture, ethnicity, and race in negotiations.More information will be posted on the Harvard Extension Service & Leadership Society site over the next few weeks, including photos from the event. Alumni Speaker Todd Rideman Tells His StoryPresented by HES Alumni Affairs Office, and HESA Notes from Friday, March 7, 2008 Todd Rideman presented an engaging discussion on his HES education, and his entrepreneurial career spanning financial consulting, real estate investment, and profitability management. March First Friday – HES Receptions at the Faculty ClubPresented by HES Undergraduate Office, Professional and Certificate Programs Office, and HESA Notes from Friday, March 7, 2008 In combination with the Undergraduate Degree Office, and the Professional and Certificate Programs Office, HESA presented Spring Term Reception on Friday March 7, 2008 at the Faculty Club. Attendees enjoyed a performance The Din and Tonics, Harvard's all-male a capella group, and two guest faculty speakers – James HESA thanks the HES Undergraduate Office, and the Professional and Certificate Programs Office for providing a fine evening of socializing, education, and merriment.
December First Friday – After Hours at the FoggPresented by Harvard Extension Alumni Affairs Office and HESA Notes from Friday, December 7, 2007 Over 130 joined us for a private evening at the Fogg, Harvard’s oldest art museum. This was one of the last chances to tour the Fogg before it closes for renovations in 2008. We strolled through the museum’s Italian Renaissance-style Calderwood Courtyard and perused the galleries of Italian early Renaissance, British pre-Raphaelite, and nineteenth-century French art, including the Wertheim Collection, one of America’s finest collections of Impressionist and post-Impressionist work. November First Friday Social – A Mid-Fall BreakNotes from Friday, November 2, 2007 Members of the Harvard Extension community to enjoyed a mid-term break at our monthly First Friday Social. Attendees met peers, made connections, and shared experiences in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Many students have expanded their network and made lifelong friends through these events. Student Appreciation Sessions at the Faculty ClubNotes from Friday, October 26, 2007 HESA members attended the student appreciation reception for Undergraduate Degree Candidates and the student appreciation reception for Professional and Certificate Degree Candidates The Radcliffe Pitches serenaded the audiences with a short program and undergraduates enjoyed Pamela Murray, Institute for Advanced Theater Training, Harvard University, as she discussed the creation of Cabaret Theater: Story Telling Through Song.
